1996 TRANS AM IROC Race Car

IROC Series Trans Am race car CHASSIS NO. 8

This race car has a wonderful place in NASCAR history!  Both Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Dale Earnhardt Jr. raced at the 1999 Michigan International Speedway. where Earnhardt Sr.  would place first followed by his son in second, trailing by an incredible 0.007 of a second in this car!  That was the closest margin of victory in the entire history of IROC racing.  This is still one of the most endeared and historic moments in NASCAR history!

In this same car, Dale Earnhardt Sr. secured his third IROC series championship while winning at Talladega in 1999.  In a similar fashion, Mark Martin won the first IROC night race ever at Charlotte which also contributed to his third IROC championship in 1997.

Other drivers who drove behind the wheel of this car from 1996-2000 are Scott Pruett, Bobby Labonte, Terry Labonte, Jeff Gordon, Dale Jarrett, Alex Zanardi, and Tony Stewart.

The Earnhardt family is a household name and legendary for both triumph and tragedy. Earnhardt Sr. is considered by many to be the greatest stock-car driver ever with seven NASCAR Cup championships in 1980, 86, 87, 90, 91, 93 and 94.  Most can relate to him through his nickname “the intimidator” which he took pride in.  This father and son duo raced together for the last time at Daytona in 2001 when Dale Sr. perished in that fatal crash that shook the sport around the world.  At the same time Dale Jr. crossed the finish line in second place.  Dale Jr. continued on to become a legend of his own.  Commanding the respect of the industry and his competitors for his skills as a driver and commitment the sport while proving to be a formidable driver.

Adored by the NASCAR fans Dale Jr. was voted

“Most Popular Driver” 14 Years in a row from 2003-2016.

Dale Jr. retired in 2017 at Miami Speedway on November 19, 2017.
